AARP CEO Jo Ann Jenkins Focuses on Need for Private and Public Sector's Commitment to Equality to Drive Meaningful Change
Jo Ann Jenkins, CEO of AARP, discusses the shifting social landscape in the United States, the impact of COVID-19 and the steps her organization is taking to foster awareness and change.
In a conversation with Steve Odland, President of The Conference Board, Jenkins reflects on her own experiences with discrimination and how those experiences are reflective of the broader challenges that people of color face regularly. Within the workplace, she hones in on how critical it is to create opportunities for transparent dialogue surrounding racial issues.
Jenkins is optimistic based on the conversations she’s having with her team: “What has been so moving about this [time] is hearing from my white colleagues and friends who said, ‘I had no idea’ or ‘I felt so uniformed about what was happening and what black people were experiencing in this country.’’’
